About the worst advice I've repeatedly received from tutors over the years is "don't bother reading the book. You can get everything you need to know from paying close attention in class." <- That works great if you aren't just starting out at the beginning part. Which is where most people are when they are taking an introductory course, no?
So then you're sitting there, and you're struggling through all the stuff that's built upon the prior stuff because you skipped the freaking beginning to get right to the questions and answer them without having learned the material in the first place.
Also, I find in lectures it can at times be pretty easy to get strung out and start zoning in and out,- usually if it is hard to see and hear. Which is why sitting in the back is stupid as hell...
But if you sit too far to the front, then you have to crane your neck to see. Also, what's with all this bullshit insistence on saving paper by making you have to print out your own copies of everything? Saves the institution money, and I know, everybody has been gutting and cost cutting institutions left, center and right for decades now... but... the cost shifts onto you because you yourself are having to print out every damned handout and assignment. Some people think only giving verbal instructions once is supposed to be okay. Or staying nebulous the whole time so that the challenge before you even start an assignment is figuring out what the hell it is they wanted you to do in the first place.
