The myth of social climbing with upward social mobility is the one by which we tell ourselves that attempting to buddy up with or that sleeping with people who are rich, powerful or otherwise important that it is somehow going to help us become important. This is rampant in society. Both men and women do it. It's fairly transparent and obvious to actual important people though.
Everybody wants somebody who has already passed the finish line and has already succeeded. Nobody wants to take a risk on somebody who is still going through the paces and on their way. There is an almost primal and preternatural fear of being a "doctor's first wife."
Okay so you recognized they are an important person. The hell do you have to offer them? Your fake friendship and some sex? I don't think so. Eventually the climber will get dumped too by somebody who is even more ruthless about it than they are.
Cee-Lo Green humorously regales us (perhaps semi-autobiographically?) about golddiggers in the following song clip:
It was hard to find an uncensored version of the song you could still watch without having to be logged in to prove you were 18. Whatever happened to freedom of speech people? He only drops a couple F-bombs for Chrissake. Anyway...

That's especially perfect. Social climbers tend to view their person of the week/ladder rungs as totally disposable, but get all butthurt when they are disposed of.
Good post!
Thanks Love, there's a reason you're my muse. ;)
